Frankelbach: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Frankelbach lies in a valley on the left bank of the upper Lauter, crossed by the Frankelbach stream. The wider regional surroundings of the village are part of the Palatinate Uplands. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Frankelbach can then continue searching for accommodation.

Landscape

The valley descends 250 metres over three kilometres, from the 443-metre-high Galgenberg to the Lauter. From the Teufelstour trail, panoramic views extend across the Palatinate Uplands, the Palatinate Forest and the Donnersberg.

History

The Teufelstein is located immediately near the municipality of Frankelbach and is designated as a Roman quarry. The 15-kilometre Teufelstour premium hiking trail is named after this Teufelstein. The quarry continued to be exploited from the Middle Ages until the more recent past; traces of stoneworking and extraction techniques have been preserved. The street name Ruhling is also connected with the route of an old Roman road through Frankelbach.

Hiking

The Teufelstour follows narrow paths and trails with a high proportion of natural surfaces, passing through almost 300 million years of geological history. A designated car park for the Teufelstour is located at the community centre at Schulstraße 18 in Frankelbach.

Culture and Places

Frankelbach is associated with an exhibition of solid-wood objects at the woodworking workshop at Eckstraße 1. An adventure playground in Wiesengrund is also associated with Frankelbach. The “Landscape in Transition” viewpoint at Steilrech is likewise associated with Frankelbach.
