The “From Rula to Sulmana” route is 19.8 kilometers long and is described as a challenging hike. It can begin at the Röhl hiking car park, passes the Fatima Chapel, and continues into the forest. Parking for the hike is available at the hiking car park in Röhl and at St. Peter in Sülm. Gasthaus Wings offers an opportunity to stop for a break. Landscape and location

Röhl lies southeast of Bitburg between the Kyll and the old Roman military road from Trier to Cologne. The area of Röhl extends to the Kyll and includes 325 hectares of forest.

History and culture

Röhl was first mentioned in 981 under the name “Rula.” Finds of stone axes in Röhl indicate settlement that is older than the first written record. Remains of Roman settlements and old iron-smelting works are documented within the village and its surrounding area.

Hof Pfalzkyll northeast of Röhl was formerly an estate of Himmerod Abbey. Parts of Hof Pfalzkyll date from the 18th century. The Fatima Chapel in Röhl was inaugurated on December 8, 1957, and expanded in 1969/70. The St. Martin Chapel in Röhl was built in 1813 over one of seven Roman settlement remains in the municipal area.

Numerous old farmhouses can be seen while walking through the streets.
