Historical Traces
The settlement tradition links Philippsheim with fishing on the Kyll. The quarrying of Kyll sandstone on both sides of the Kyll contributed to the expansion of the settlement.
From 1871, Philippsheim was a railway station serving 15 surrounding villages. From 1900, the Binsfeld–Philippsheim narrow-gauge railway connection created numerous jobs. The little railway was used until 1965.
Trails and Leisure
Philippsheim offers fishing as well as hiking on marked trails. The village also has three local hiking trails with a total length of 18 km.
Leyköpfchen is located near Philippsheim and has been identified as a prehistoric hillfort.
