Hosten: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hosten is located on the edge of the Kyll Valley Red Sandstone Route. Hikers from outside the area take a break in Hosten while following the route. The village is surrounded by a well-developed network of paths suitable for cycling.

Culture and History

Hosten originated in the 13th century as an estate belonging to Trier’s St. Maximin Abbey. Later, a hunting estate owned by Count Kesselstatt became part of Hosten’s early settlement history. Hosten also has a historical connection to nearby sandstone quarries where millstones were produced.

The St. Joseph branch church has seven windows depicting the Seven Joys of Mary. The stained glass in St. Joseph branch church was modeled on an original by a Flemish artist. The wayside cross near Hosten is a legally protected cultural monument and is believed to date from around 1600.

Hosten’s sights include stone finds and discoveries from Roman times. At the entrance to Hosten from the direction of Orenhofen there is a replica of a Celtic temple complex.

Paths and Landscape

Several sandstone quarries are located on the wooded slopes toward the Kyll Valley. Below the settlement, the Kyll Valley Cycle Route runs through the Kyll Valley and passes Hosten. Use of the barbecue hut in Hosten includes access to the hut and the surrounding municipal facilities.

Geographical Location

In the broader regional context, Hosten belongs to the Speicher collective municipality. Its territory lies on a plateau 300–350 meters high west of the Kyll in the southern part of the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm. The L2 provides the road connection from Hosten to Bitburg.
