Trails and Nature

The surrounding forests and neighboring villages can be reached from Orenhofen on foot or by bicycle via well-developed hiking and farm roads.

The Orenhofen O2 hiking trail runs through the Orenhofen Forest and largely follows well-developed paths. In addition to the signposts, the use of GPS navigation or a hiking map is recommended for the O2 hiking route.

Schönfelder Hof can be reached via the cycle and footpath along Landesstraße 2.

Culture and History

St. Rochus Church is a Neo-Gothic red sandstone ashlar hall built in 1876/77. It contains wall paintings as well as retaining walls with a staircase.

The organ in St. Rochus was built by Klais in 1907 and remains in its original condition. The church also preserves an 18th-century statue of St. Rochus with a staff and a dog.

Finds of fragments document Roman pottery workshops in Orenhofen. A clay pipe manufactory produced clay pipes until the first half of the 20th century.

Finds from the Stone Age, the Roman period, and the Frankish period have been documented in Orenhofen. An excavation of a Frankish cemetery is listed among Orenhofen’s sights.

A war memorial dating from 1968/69 stands in Orenhofen’s cemetery. The former girls’ schoolhouse is a yellow and red sandstone ashlar building from 1876/77 and is listed as such.

Traditions and Local History

The annual religious Rochus Festival is followed by the Rochus Fair on the following Sunday.

A wayside chapel at the intersection of Kapellenstraße and Zemmerer Straße probably dates from the 18th or early 19th century; its niche cross may date from the 16th century.

The Bitburger Land is described as a landscape with sunny plateaus, deeply incised river valleys, and light-filled forests. The Bitburger Land is associated with the hiking trails of the NaturWanderPark delux and cycle paths along the river valleys.
