Balesfeld: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

The Catholic branch church of St. Anthony is a hall church built in 1775. The bridge over the Weuerbach is a single-arch ashlar bridge dating from 1812. Balesfeld is also home to Napoleon’s Bridge, which was built in 1812 during the expansion of the Trier–Aachen highway. It has a round arch over the stream as well as carefully squared-off front and side walls.

The house at Hauptstraße 6 is dated 1806. The Hauptstraße historic monument zone developed around 1800 and preserves a coherent group of buildings from the first half of the 19th century. A stone sculpture of Saint Anthony at Kapellenstraße 3 probably dates from the 18th century.

The farm complex at Hauptstraße 3 dates from the early to mid-19th century. It includes a substantial residential and inn building with a half-hipped roof, as well as agricultural buildings.

Nature

The Bitburger Land comprises the Kyllburger Waldeifel, the Bitburger Gutland and part of the Islek. It is characterized by sunny plateaus, deeply incised river valleys and forests filled with light.

Trails

The embankment of the former Trier–Cologne Roman road is still clearly visible in the Kyll Forest near Balesfeld. The route of the Roman road runs through the Sang cadastral area along the edge of the forest. The Bitburger Land has award-winning hiking trails belonging to the NaturWanderPark delux, as well as cycle paths along river valleys.

A wayside shrine cross dating from 1677 is located in the forest south of Burbach Mill, on the direct route between Balesfeld and Sefferweich.
