Culture and History

Traben-Trarbach can be explored through its concentration of Art Nouveau and Belle Époque buildings, as well as architecture in the Baroque, Neoclassical and Moselle styles. The Brückentor, the ruins of Grevenburg, Mont Royal Fortress and the Trarbach Museum District are identified as central cultural heritage features.

The restored Old Town Tower is a striking surviving relic of Trarbach’s medieval fortifications. From its platform, visitors can enjoy views over the rooftops of the twin town. The Old Town Tower also houses a collection of historic fireplace, tiled-stove and oven plates from the nearby Mittelmosel Museum. The carillon at the Old Town Tower has 28 bronze bells and is described as the largest carillon in the Moselle region.

Museums

The Zeitreise Museum displays historic and iconic bicycles, as well as bicycle accessories such as carbide lamps and head badges. It also features a restored collection of dolls, dollhouses and antique toys. A 1950s section includes furniture, technology and fashion. The museum also displays antique trains, railway stations and tracks.

Getting Around the Town

Moselle passenger boats dock in both districts of Traben-Trarbach. The Lauschtour-Traben-Trarbach can be followed independently, without time pressure or a tour guide.
