Warmsroth lies on the edge of larger woodland areas; nearly half of the municipality’s area is forested.

History

Archaeological traces include the excavated Roman villa of Wald-Erbach. Its imposing, 38-metre-wide front faced the valley; a colonnade stood between two projecting wings. The villa is dated to the period from the 2nd century to the beginning of the 4th century. The central room measured approximately 15 by 13 metres and contained a documented well. A bathhouse addition is also depicted at the southwest corner.

The medieval bell tower is Warmsroth’s landmark and is topped by a Baroque cupola dating from 1754. The former Catholic church in Warmsroth became Protestant in 1558. After the church became Protestant, Warmsroth’s Catholics attended the simultaneous church in Stromberg.

Culture

The St. Pancratius Chapel in Wald-Erbach probably dates from the 15th century and is dedicated to Saint Pancratius. It stands in a small hollow surrounded by meadows and a horse farm. Visible tombs of the von Guerin family and of de Requile, a former owner, have been preserved in the chapel.

The Pancratius Chapel is used for civil and non-religious wedding ceremonies. Church weddings and baptisms are not permitted there. A bookable guided tour of Wald-Erbach Castle and Chapel is offered for groups of 4 to 20 people and is recommended for visitors aged 16 and over. The tour presents the history of the complex.

Nature

An approximately 10-kilometre Stromberg–Bingen stage of the Hildegard of Bingen Pilgrimage Route passes through Warmsroth and by the St. Pancratius Chapel before continuing into the Binger Forest; the stage is described as taking around five hours. The Pancratius Chapel in Warmsroth is a stop on the Hildegard Pilgrimage Route and has a meditation panel.

Local Area

Waldhof Kemmer offers riding lessons and horse boarding. The farm shop stall sells homemade tinned sausage, game sausages, honey and potatoes. Waldhof Kemmer can also arrange game meat from the forests of Warmsroth, including roe deer, wild boar and red deer.
