Saulheim: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saulheim combines distinctive cultural monuments with viticulture, landscapes, and a variety of paths through the town. The Lange Stein is the largest menhir in Rheinhessen and a cultural and historical monument. Archaeological traces of settlements and burials from the Neolithic, Iron Age, and Roman periods can be found around this monument.

Culture and History

At the centre of Saulheim stands the Knight Hundt as a life-size stone figure; he has been a landmark of the town since 1987. Guided tours focusing on local history lead through historic Nieder-Saulheim and explore the heritage of the mills along the Saulheimer Bach. The tours are also available in English and French.

In the village centre of Nieder-Saulheim stands the Roman, surrounded by the historic town hall and two neo-Gothic churches. The town hall has a stair tower, a spiral staircase, and a Renaissance roof. The second Protestant church in Saulheim contains a Gothic baptismal font from the 13th century, a Gothic pulpit from the 15th century, and a Rococo organ dating from 1728.

Saulheim's local history museum is housed in a former manor house and displays 19th-century interiors as well as traditional crafts such as cooperage, shoemaking, and weaving.

Nature and Activities

The Mühlbachaue is a renaturalised park and natural floodplain landscape between Saulheim's two historic centres. The site includes waterways, diverse fauna and flora, paved paths, seating areas, viewpoints, opportunities for wildlife observation, and a boules court.

Circular cycling tours begin in Saulheim on paved farm and cycle paths without motorised traffic. The routes include climbs, distant views, rest areas, and opportunities to stop for refreshments. The Hiwweltour Saulheimer Hölle trail passes through Saulheim's Hölle and Schlossberg vineyards and offers panoramic views towards the Donnersberg, Soonwald, Rheingau, Feldberg, and Odenwald.

Wine and Local Character

In 2025, Saulheim ranked tenth among Rheinhessen's large wine-growing municipalities. The total vineyard area was 545 hectares. Kösterhof Winery offers personal wine tastings and vineyard walks.

Mario and Lydia Dechent Winery grows Silvaner, Riesling, Burgundy varieties, Sauvignon Blanc, and various red grape varieties in Saulheim's Hölle, Schloßberg, and Probstey vineyards, as well as in Stadecker Lenchen. The winery offers wine tastings in its vinotheque and also has a historic vaulted cellar.
