Sinzig: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Sinzig combines Roman history, medieval paths, buildings and landscapes at the mouth of the Ahr. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Sinzig can then continue their accommodation search. Culture
St. Peter is considered an important late Romanesque ecclesiastical building in the Rhineland and has been protected as cultural heritage under the Hague Convention since 1998. The church contains a late Gothic triptych from 1480 with scenes from the lives of Jesus and Mary.
Sinzig Castle was built between 1854 and 1858 in the neo-Gothic style on the foundations of a medieval moated castle. The surrounding park was designed by Peter Joseph Lenné and is used for walking and recreation. Recurring cultural events and concerts are held in the former salon of the castle.
At Kirchplatz, the town hall, St. Peter and gastronomic establishments come together; events, markets and festivals are also held there.
History
The Sinzig terra sigillata manufactory was the only one in the Roman province of Lower Germania whose goods achieved widespread distribution.
Sinzig’s royal estate on the Aachen–Frankfurt military road is documented as early as 762. The road ran through Sinzig and served as a trade, coronation and pilgrimage route in the Middle Ages. There are pronounced hollow ways on the uphill paths between Bad Bodendorf and Kirchdaun along this military road.
At Elsa-Brändström-Ring, a preserved Wiek house provides a visible trace of the former town fortifications.
Nature
The Ahr estuary nature reserve, at the confluence of the Ahr and Rhine, is a destination for hikers and cyclists. The Ahr estuary is described as the only natural or renaturalized mouth of a tributary flowing into the Rhine.
Visitors to Feltenturm can climb 58 steps and enjoy a 360-degree panorama over the valleys of the Rhine, Ahr, Hellenbach and Harbach. The seventh stage of the AhrSteig runs directly past Feltenturm; Feltenturm and Cäcilia-Hütte provide a resting place for hikers.
Getting Around
Sinzig railway station can be reached from Remagen by RE5 and RB26 trains as well as bus 851; RB30 also operates between Bonn and Walporzheim on the relevant railway section.
