Harscheid: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Two circular hiking trails pass through Harscheid via the surrounding hills. The AhrSteig connects the source of the Ahr near Blankenheim with its mouth near Sinzig in seven stages and runs through the wider Ahr region.
Nature
Circular hiking trail No. 4, “Schuld-Harscheid-Schuld,” leads from Schuld via Harscheid back to Schuld. It is described as a moderately difficult hike covering 7.6 km, with 229 m of ascent and 231 m of descent. The trail begins in the centre of Schuld at the bridge and also ends in the centre of Schuld. The ascent to Harscheid includes a 1.4 km section that climbs gently uphill.
Along the way, circular hiking trail No. 4 crosses the Locherberg and passes meadows and hawthorn hedges. The Harscheid loop runs through Eichholz along stands of oak and beech trees. A forest path of approximately 250 m leads from the farm track to the Martinshütte. From there, a viewpoint opens up over Schuld and the surrounding area.
A short detour of approximately 150 m from circular hiking trail No. 4 leads to a small observation tower offering views over Am Bahnhof, Branderholz and Bubenley. The circular trail also features an information board about the Schuld GEOLOGY TRAIL; the geology trail runs parallel to part of the hiking route.
Trails
Circular hiking trail No. 3 connects Schuld, Sierscheid, Harscheid and Schuld again via the surrounding hills. In addition to the “Schuld-Harscheid-Schuld” loop, this means that sections of trail in the local ridge between the places mentioned are also part of the described network of paths.
Culture
The Catholic St. Donatus Chapel at Mittelstraße 4 in Harscheid is recorded as a hall church dating from 1754.
Getting There
To reach the Harscheid route by public transport, take the train from Remagen to Ahrbrück and then the bus to Schuld. By car, travel from the A61 at the Meckenheim interchange via the B257 to Dümpelfeld, and then via the L73 to Schuld.
There is a car park opposite the “zum Köbes” country inn, near the starting point of circular hiking trail No. 4.
