Park, Stage and Gardens

Mohns Park offers play, sports and leisure activities for all age groups. Facilities include a mini-golf course, sports and tennis courts, a playground and a foot-wading pool. These facilities are still available, in some cases in a modified form. The park combines these activities with an open-air stage used for outdoor cultural events. This means the park offers both exercise and play, as well as outdoor culture.

If you’re interested in gardens, the Gütersloh Botanical Garden has eight themed gardens. The Apothecary Garden offers a different perspective: the Förderverein Apothekergarten Gütersloh organises expert-led garden tours. They start at 11 a.m. in front of the entrance to the Palm House Café; no booking is required. The set meeting point and time make it easy to include a tour in your day’s plans.

Experience the Water and Explore Cycle Routes

The Dalke Water Experience Trail comprises 20 stations. They offer an engaging explanation of the ecological and economic importance of water and its many uses. You can explore the trail on foot or by bike. In Avenwedde, you have to leave the Dalke between Station 1 at the Große Wiese nature reserve and Station 3 at the Strangmühle mill. Bear this specific interruption in mind when finding your way along the trail.

The D3 cycle route also passes through Gütersloh. It is part of a European route stretching more than 3,500 kilometres. Cycle tours through the city, the surrounding district and the Teutoburg Forest are also presented for Gütersloh and the region. Along the way, you can explore parks, historic sites and landscapes. If you enjoy cycling, you can also consider Gütersloh as part of tours through the region.

Local History and Technology

The Gütersloh City Museum uses numerous exhibits to show what everyday life in Gütersloh was like several decades ago. The Miele Museum offers a different way to explore history: located at Miele’s corporate headquarters, it is a museum of technological history. Across 750 square metres, it displays documents from the company’s history and around 200 items from its production.

The historic Veerhoffhaus is a half-timbered building that shapes the townscape and features several different construction phases. Together with the Kirchplatzring ensemble, it is one of Gütersloh’s central historic monuments. The Mühlenstroth Steam Light Railway (DKBM) adds a technical highlight: it built a railway track with a 600-millimetre gauge on a plot of land in Gütersloh, running in a circle around the property.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Gütersloh, you can start by considering which aspects of the city you’d like to shape your stay: leisure activities in the park, gardens and water, cycle tours, or insights into history and technology. These different themes give you concrete pointers for choosing a Gütersloh visit that suits your travel interests.
