History

Sternberg contains the megalithic tombs of Klein Görnow and Dabel 2, the Sternberg rampart, which has been identified as an Old Slavic archaeological site, and a Middle Slavic dwelling pit.

The settlement of Sternberg was laid out around 1230 to 1250 with a grid-like street network and a slightly elliptical layout; in 1248 it was granted town privileges.
