Village Church and Concert Tradition
The Hohen Pritz village church is a rectangular fieldstone building dating from the mid-13th century. The west tower was added in 1515, and the walls are almost two metres thick. The building thus brings together a medieval structure and a later tower phase. Music is also part of the village’s history: in 2024, the “Music in Old Walls” concert series returned to the church. The church therefore offers a tangible point of interest for architecture enthusiasts, while the concert series adds a musical note.
Lakes, Swimming Areas and Landscape
At the municipal level, Kukuk and Klein Pritz are also among the places whose lakes have shaped tourism development. Campsites and excellent swimming opportunities there attract visitors and guests every year. The bathing area on Lake Klein Pritz is located in Kukuk, at the campsite. When the state bathing water register was accessed on 7 September 2026, the bathing areas at the lake in Klein Pritz and Kukuk were listed as having excellent water quality. Lake Klein Pritz lies on the southern edge of the Sternberg Lake District Nature Park. The nature park is one of the protected areas within the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim travel destination. The lakes within the municipality also offer numerous water sports opportunities. This lets you choose between specific bathing areas and a broader focus on water sports; the lake’s location at the edge of the nature park adds a landscape dimension to these activities.
Getting Here and Choosing Where to Stay
VLP operates bus route 186 from Sternberg via Stieten and Wamckow to Hohen Pritz and Kukuk, and back. Check the current timetable before travelling. The different focal points can help you choose where to stay: the village church is in Hohen Pritz, while the bathing areas mentioned are in Klein Pritz and Kukuk. Focus your holiday apartment search on whichever of these places is most important for your planned activities, rather than treating the municipality as a single location.
A Regional Cultural Contrast
Within the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim travel destination, Ludwigslust Palace offers a different perspective on history: it was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and forms an ensemble with the park and town known as the “Versailles of the North.” The palace is the centrepiece of an almost entirely preserved late Baroque townscape, with a former court church and an English-style landscape park. The palace presents art and courtly domestic culture from the 18th and early 19th centuries. This regional focus on courtly culture and urban planning offers a different emphasis from the village church in Hohen Pritz.
