Lewitzrand invites you to shape a journey between water, landscapes and regional history. The municipality’s villages are home to village churches, lakes, historic sites and excursion destinations that can be combined into different kinds of holiday days. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday house in Lewitzrand can make their preferred mix of nature, culture, activities and water the starting point for choosing their location.

Between Village Churches, Lakes and Locks

The sights in the villages of the municipality of Lewitzrand include Raduhn village church, Raduhner See, the Alte Forsthof in Rusch with its fallow deer enclosure, Klinken village church, Klinker See, Garwitz village church, the Garwitz lock complex, the Alte Schleusentor Garwitz, Eldebad Garwitz and Matzlow village church. The municipality therefore offers various reasons for excursions: You can explore village churches and historic landmarks, seek out waterscapes or plan a day of swimming and activities.

Hiking and Cycling in the Lewitz

Extensive hikes and cycling tours into the Lewitz Landscape Protection Area begin in the villages of the municipality of Lewitzrand. Recommended destinations include the Eldewanderweg Garwitz-Damm, the Klinken Cultural Hiking Trail, the Garwitz Cultural Hiking Trail, the Pingelhof in Alt Damerow, the viewing tower at the Dütchow Hochbrücke, the carp ponds in the Lewitz, and Friedrichsmoor hunting lodge and forest area. A cycle path connects all the municipality’s villages and their excursion destinations. When looking for suitable accommodation, it is therefore worth considering first whether cycling paths, hiking destinations, water or culture should be the focus of your holiday.

Garwitz as a Starting Point for Water and Cultural Experiences

The circular hiking trail or forest path to the Pingelhof Museum begins and ends at the waterway hikers’ rest area in Garwitz. Another option is the approximately 10-kilometre circular route Garwitz – Müritz-Elde Waterway – Malchow – Pingelhof – Garwitz. The Eldewanderweg Garwitz-Damm is also one of the routes recommended by the municipality. These different formats leave room for planning your own day without having to commit to just one way of travelling.

The Alte Schleusentor Garwitz also tells the story of the waterways. The upper gate of the old lock was built in 1894, and its wooden gate was renewed in 1989. During the lock’s fundamental reconstruction in 2000/2001, it was dismantled and erected above the lock. It has been preserved there as a technical monument and can be viewed by visitors.

Local History, Crafts and Nature

A local history room is located in the historic forester’s house in the district of Rusch. In Rusch, near Raduhn, visitors can also browse three pottery workshops. Klinken provides another cultural highlight: The church has a medieval ribbed vault and restored murals. Those who wish to combine nature observation with a landscape of distinctive character will find a habitat for rare and partly endangered animal and plant species in the Klinker Plage nature reserve.

Water Experiences for Different Holiday Days

Eldebad Garwitz has a large sunbathing lawn, a baby pool, a non-swimmer pool and a swimming pool with four 50-metre lanes. The annual Neptune Festival is a tradition there. This means that a stay in Lewitzrand can also be complemented by a day of swimming or a local festival. Garwitz is also home to Lewitzcamp-Garwitz, a small, natural campsite directly on the Müritz-Elde Waterway.
