Village Church, Manor House and Goldenitz Manor House

The late Baroque Warlitz village church was built between 1765 and 1768. It stands in an octagonal churchyard surrounded by old lime trees. The organ also has a specific connection to the church's construction history: it was built by organ maker Johann Georg Stein. Together, the architectural style, churchyard and organ give the church ensemble several aspects of cultural history. The village church is also part of the cycle route to sacred buildings—an option for travellers who would like to combine culture and cycling.

The Warlitz manor house was built in 1620 by Danish Colonel von Pentz. It is set in a park of around three hectares, with a small lake and a moat. Here, the park landscape is explicitly part of the historic setting: the manor house does not stand alone, but is connected with the water features and the park. The approximate size of the park provides a sense of scale, while leaving room to appreciate its individual features.

Goldenitz manor house adds to the architectural history with a two-storey rendered building on a raised basement, with eight bays. Hellmuth von Könemann had it built around 1860; the architect of the Tudor-style house was Heinrich Gustav Thormann. The landscaped grounds around the manor house and coach house include a large pond on the south side and numerous old trees. Compared with Warlitz manor house, the descriptions present different park landscapes: there, a small lake and moat; here, a southern pond, old trees and the coach house.

Culture in the Wider Ludwigslust-Parchim Destination

In the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination, Ludwigslust Palace was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg. Together with its park and town, it forms an ensemble known as the “Little Versailles of the North.” The palace is the centrepiece of an almost entirely preserved late Baroque town layout, with a former court church and an English-style landscape park. Inside the palace, visitors can learn about art and courtly domestic culture from the 18th and early 19th centuries.

The Dömitz Citadel, also in the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination, offers a different perspective on architectural history. Modelled on Italian examples, the Renaissance fortress is laid out as a pentagon with bastions, casemates and a drawbridge. The fortress museum covers the history of the fortress and town, the history of the Elbe, harbour and bridges, Fritz Reuter, as well as temporary and art exhibitions. These subjects complement Warlitz's village church and manor house architecture with the history of fortresses and towns.

At Zarrentin Monastery, guided tours cover the history of the former Cistercian convent, the lives of the nuns and the building's architecture.
