Volkwardingen preserves a historic agricultural stair granary building dating from 1600, with an extension from 1702. The building was reconstructed in 2001 and serves as an illustrative example of village culture as well as a venue for events and meetings.
In the Bauernbusch/Lohberg woodland area are Bronze Age burial mounds. They were scientifically examined in 1970; some graves were opened for the investigation.
Two signposted circular hiking trails start in Volkwardingen. The local range of activities also includes bicycle tours, horse-drawn carriage rides, horseback excursions and mini golf.
The surrounding area of Volkwardingen is home to the Historic Boundary Stones, the Schwedenschanze, the De Theeshof local history museum, the City of the Dead and the lookout tower offering a beautiful view.
The Holzberg is located near Volkwardingen, as is the Geitzenberg. The Luhe spring is also located in the area surrounding Volkwardingen.
Local traditions include roasting suckling pigs twice a year, an extensive cake buffet on the last Sunday in July, lantern parades and tree-planting customs at Whitsun.
