Cultural history in Schwarmstedt
The history of the Uhle-Hof dates back to the 15th century. Since 1986, the estate has been used for public and cultural events as well as wedding ceremonies. The grounds are also home to “Der Uhle-Boom”, a bronze sculpture by local artist Siegfried Steege. It depicts the 13 villages of the Schwarmstedt collective municipality as owls. At Uhle-Hof, a historic site and a work of art connected to the collective municipality come together.
St. Laurentius Church also offers specific points of historical interest: it was first mentioned in a deed of donation around 1150. Frescoes dating from the 15th century were uncovered in 1971/72. Features include a baptismal font from 1528 and a Renaissance pulpit from 1608. Visitors interested in church art and local history will find several distinct traces of the past here.
The Alte Burg is a rare example of a Baroque half-timbered building and was constructed in 1632. It is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside. The Rittergut von Lenthe is also privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside. Keep these restrictions in mind when planning a cultural walk: both sites can be viewed from the outside, but their interiors are not open to visitors.
Another cultural attraction is Harry’s klingendes Museum. It presents a collection of mechanical musical instruments and demonstrates and performs masterpieces of mechanical music, from its beginnings to 1920. The musical theme offers a different perspective on local history alongside the historic buildings.
Leine harbour and exploring the waterways
The Leine harbour has a landing stage and is a starting point for exploring the waterways. At the harbour exit stands “PaarPferd”, a bronze sculpture by local artist Siegfried Steege. Boat tourers can stay overnight in the Schwarmstedt angling club’s harbour building.
