The Sandgrube Bötersen nature site is a former sand quarry with steep slopes, deep- and shallow-water zones, islands, dry grassland and areas free of vegetation.
Visitors can observe waterfowl and sand martins from the observation hut at Sandgrube Bötersen, and occasionally also ospreys and kingfishers. At the same time, the site provides a habitat for dragonflies and amphibians, including the natterjack toad. The observation hut is not accessible to people with disabilities; information boards explain the local animal and plant life.
Culture
Bötersen is a municipality in the collective municipality of Sottrum in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme), Lower Saxony. The municipality includes the localities of Bötersen, Höperhöfen and Jeerhof.
Bötersen’s coat of arms refers to a Bronze Age hearth excavated in the municipality.
Bötersen won at state level in 2018; following this victory, the municipality received a gold medal in the 2019 national competition “Our Village Has a Future”.
The site is best reached via the B 71, which leads through Mulmshorn towards Rotenburg (Wümme).
