Upleward's medieval church was built in the first half of the 14th century as a Gothic rectangular single-nave brick church. Features include rich blind-arcade decoration, some original pointed-arch windows and a trefoil arch above a former entrance. Inside the church are an 18th-century pulpit and preserved traces of wall paintings, which are presumably apostolic crosses. Remains of a sacrament house from the church are displayed in the Mill Museum in nearby Pewsum.
