During the Second World War, the Augustaschacht pump house served as a forced labour education camp. The pump station building has been preserved almost unchanged as a significant monument to the Hüggel ore mining industry. The artist Volker Johannes Trieb installed metre-long charred tree stumps on the outer walls of Augustaschacht; there is also a memorial made of rusted metal steles above Augustaschacht. These different physical traces give visitors several concrete starting points for engaging with the site.

Freizeitland Hasbergen offers a sauna area, squash courts, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, and two bowling lanes.
