Heathland and birdlife in Trebel
The Nemitzer Heide lies in the southeast of the municipality of Trebel and covers about 550 hectares. It was declared a nature reserve in 2019. The heathland is home to woodlarks, nightjars, stonechats and tawny pipits. This means that, alongside the landscape itself, birdlife is one of the specific natural features that can shape a stay in Trebel. Numerous paved hiking trails lead through the Nemitzer Heide. One longer route with a precisely specified distance is the 14.6 km Nemitzer-Heide-Weg. It leads through the neighbouring Gartow Forest and on to the villages of Trebel and Marleben. You can factor the route length into your day’s plans; the trail is marked with a purple hat symbol. This gives you both a specific distance and a recognisable trail marker to follow on your hike.

The Trebel coachman travels along forest roads and farm tracks, and especially enjoys driving through the Nemitzer Heide. Church, concerts and local events
The fieldstone church in Trebel took on its present form in the 15th or 16th century. The historic organ by Johann Georg Stein (1777) creates a special connection to music history: the church hosts organ nights and classical concerts featuring this and other instruments. Trebel also has an annual market: the Kiekemarkt takes place every year on 1 May. The Heideblütenfest is held on the last weekend of August at the sheepfolds near Nemitz. The Künstlerischen Werkstätten Trebel are located at Hauptstraße 3 in the former Bollmann inn. Another trace of history can be found in Dünsche: the main house of Hof No. 2 was built in 1734 using a three-bay construction and has a richly decorated gable. The Nemitzer Heidehaus lies between Nemitz and Trebel. It features a free multimedia exhibition about the 1975 forest fire that led to the creation of the heathland; it is also designed for visitors with visual impairments. Along with the fieldstone church, these sites show different aspects of local architectural history. They offer culture enthusiasts more than one point of interest, without requiring a set itinerary.
