Accommodation in Heinade
Heinade lies between Dassel to the southeast, Holzminden to the west and Stadtoldendorf to the north, on the eastern edge of Solling-Vogler Nature Park and in the headwaters of the Spüligbach, a northwestern tributary of the Ilme. The village is also in the headwaters of the Spüligbach, a northwestern tributary of the Ilme. The edge of the nature park and the stream’s headwaters provide two specific landscape reference points, while the towns listed indicate its location.

Hellental: Meadows, a stream and geological features
Within the municipality, Hellental stretches from Mecklenbruch in the southwest to the village of Hellental in the northeast. Some areas feature extensively managed grassland and remnants of montane mountain meadows. The natural Helle, a meadow stream, runs through the valley, which also has small wet meadows and some riverside trees. Stream sinks are another geological feature of Hellental. Meadows, stream habitats and geology therefore lend different character to the same landscape. When planning your stay, you can consider whether you would like to focus more on nature, regional history, or a combination of both.
Glass and bread: Regional history in Hellental
Outside the Hellental Historical Museum stands the master glass stele “Hellental – Old Valley of the Glassmakers”. It commemorates the regional historical importance of glassmaking in the Old Valley of the Glassmakers in the Brunswick Solling. This specialised trade was practised there for around 550 years at certain times: the long tradition was therefore not continuous.
The village bakehouse in Hellental adds a second point of interest. After an extended renovation, it reopened to the public on 14 September 2008. Today, its historically significant architecture houses the compactly presented themes GLASS & BREAD. The stele and the themes in the bakehouse thus offer different ways to explore the village’s history. Hikers can reach the Hellental Historical Museum on stage 6 of the Weserbergland Trail (XW). The wider Holzminden destination offers further cultural and landscape highlights. Polle Castle Ruins stand on a hilltop about 25 metres high above the municipality of Polle in the Weser Valley. Amelungsborn Abbey is on the B64 between Negenborn and Eschershausen in the district of Holzminden. These two facts offer additional points of reference for places and landscapes beyond the description of Heinade itself.
At Fürstenberg Castle, a museum and the landscape come together: the Fürstenberg Castle Museum displays porcelain from more than 265 years of the FÜRSTENBERG porcelain manufactory. The grounds also include a viewing platform 80 metres above the Weser, with panoramic views of the Weser Valley and the tripoint. Bevern Castle is an architectural highlight. The four-winged Renaissance complex was built between 1603 and 1612 around a square courtyard with a moat, two bridges and a castle garden.
In Holzminden, Sensoria is Europe’s first interactive museum of smell and taste, with ten themed areas across 600 square metres. The Grünenplan Glass Museum traces the development of the Grünenplan glassworks from its founding in 1744 to the modern production of Deutsche Spezialglas AG. It explains the production processes using tools, finished pieces and photographs. It also explores what a glassblower’s daily life was like, how glassworks workers used to live and what unusual role canaries played in Grünenplan.
