Guided tours of Bodenwerder can be booked in conjunction with a visit to the Münchhausen Museum. Guided city tours lead through historic alleys, across squares, and to monuments and buildings.
The three-storey manor house, now Bodenwerder Town Hall, was built between 1603 and 1609 and is Münchhausen’s birthplace. The Schulenburg, built around 1300, houses the Münchhausen Museum. It commemorates the Baron’s stories and Bodenwerder’s historical urban history.
Bodenwerder’s small-town streetscape is characterised by half-timbered houses. The distillery building was built in 1720 by Münchhausen’s father and now houses the Tourist Information Office. The Münchhausen estate is an ensemble of three historic buildings: the manor house, the distillery building, and the Schulenburg.
The Münchhausen Fountain, featuring half a horse, was created by Bruno Schmitz to mark Bodenwerder’s 675th anniversary.
Münchhausen Land combines the gentle hills of the Weser Uplands, the banks of the Weser, and numerous hiking and cycling trails.
Bodenwerder’s Weser promenade has a bicycle inner-tube vending machine and a self-service repair station with an e-bike charging facility. Another repair and charging station is located at the Münchhausen Museum.
The recurring Münchhausen play is performed from May to October on the first Sunday of each month on the steps of the town hall. Bodenwerder’s adventure golf course features twelve themed holes with elements from the stories of Baron Münchhausen. A seasonal Münchhausen musical is performed in the town hall park.
