Cycling and the town
The North District Route passes through Groß Twülpstedt. If you would like to include cycling in your travel plans, you can take its route into account as a specific factor when choosing where to stay. The route offers an active focus; the church provides a different perspective on the town, shaped by architecture and historical traces. When choosing your holiday apartment, consider which of these interests you would like to give more time to during your stay. This allows you to explore Groß Twülpstedt both through the course of a cycling route and through its local history.
Church, churchyard and historical traces
The Church of St. Mary and St. Cyriacus in Groß Twülpstedt features vaulted paintings dating from around 1500. The churchyard contains eight tombstones, including one from the early Middle Ages. These named features reflect different historical periods: the paintings date from around 1500, while one of the tombstones is specifically attributed to the early Middle Ages.
Today, the churchyard is a tree-lined green space on a hill with sloping terrain; in the past, it served as the town cemetery. Its present-day appearance and former function can be considered together. Along with the tombstones, the green space makes the churchyard a distinctive part of the town’s historic character. This gives you a clear choice in planning your trip between an outing connected with cycling and a focus on cultural history.
