Quantz and Music in Scheden
The Johann Joachim Quantz memorial is located in a memorial niche below Quantzplatz on Quantzstraße. The bronze sculpture depicts the composer Johann Joachim Quantz and was created by sculptor Georg Arfmann. The memorial was inaugurated in 1991. Here, the musician’s name, the artwork and its history come together in one specific place.
St. Mark’s Church also offers several points of connection with music. It houses the Johann Joachim Quantz exhibition, which opened on 5 June 2004. The GSO also regularly uses the church as a concert venue; it additionally hosts smaller concerts by the brass and church choirs. Two Routes and a Church Ruin
The European long-distance path E6 runs through Tiefenbrunn, Scheden, Hann. Münden, Dahlenrode and Witzenhausen. The Studentenpfad X13 also passes through Tiefenbrunn, Scheden and Hann. Münden, then continues via Spiekershausen. The places listed highlight a specific difference between the routes: Dahlenrode and Witzenhausen are on the stated E6 route, while Spiekershausen is on the X13. Those interested in hiking can thus consider Scheden in the context of two different route sequences.
East of Scheden, in the surrounding area, lie the excavated and restored Wetenborn church ruins. They are the remains of a church belonging to a medieval village that was abandoned around 1400. From Scheden, access to the ruins is via the paved Apfelbaumallee farm track, followed by a footpath. The ruins and the story of the abandoned village make this excursion a different kind of discovery from a memorial, exhibition or concert.
Göttingen: Its Own Cultural and Natural Attractions

The Gänseliesel has been the city’s landmark since 1901. The assembly hall of the University of Göttingen is a key building and an example of Neoclassical architecture; it houses the historic university jail. The Deutsches Theater’s main auditorium has 488 seats in the stalls and three tiers and is considered an architectural gem of Göttingen.
Those who would also like to enjoy green spaces and outdoor activities during their stay will find a different range of options in Göttingen. The Old Botanical Garden was founded in 1736 as a “hortus medicus,” or medicinal garden. Visitors can explore historic greenhouses, tropical vegetation in the rainforest house and the Alpine garden. Walks, hikes and cycle rides are possible in the Hainberg municipal forest. Wild boar and fallow deer live in the wildlife enclosure at Kehr, and a three-kilometre circular trail runs around it.
