Visitors can also learn about these specific aspects of nature at the Baltrum National Park House, where an exhibition showcases the flora and fauna of Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. This means that, alongside the landscape itself, its plant and animal life are also at the heart of a visit to the island.

Those who want to explore the island outdoors can follow the seven-kilometre Baltrum Tidal Trail. This educational trail has information boards and activity stations about the island. The boards offer interesting facts along the way, while the stations add practical hands-on elements to the circular route. The National Park House also offers guided walks through the salt marshes. The starting point is at the Lower Saxony Gymnastics Association’s tent camp in the east of the island. Getting around without cars

Baltrum is car-free. Exceptions are emergency vehicles and vehicles used to protect the island; transport on the island is carried out by bicycle or horse-drawn carriage. The ferry crossing from Neßmersiel to Baltrum takes about 30 minutes.
