Water and Landscape

The Geeste River runs through the municipality of Schiffdorf and offers the opportunity for an extensive canoe trip. The Schiffdorf weir lock is a maritime monument dating from the 19th century and also a starting point for canoe trips on the Geeste. From the bridge above the Schiffdorf weir lock, there is a view of the Geeste and the settlement of Spaden to the north.

In Bramel, the Bramel polder is a wetland of approximately 150 hectares that serves as a breeding and resting site for numerous rare birds. An observation tower offers the opportunity to watch birds in the Bramel polder. Near Wehdel lies Lake Silbersee in the Silbersee and Laaschmoor nature reserve. Part of Lake Silbersee is open for swimming; visitors also have access to a beach volleyball court, a football pitch, and a playground. Camping is possible in the Silbersee recreation area near Wehdel.

Culture and History

In Altluneberg, the restored Oldenburger Haus is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century where cultural events take place. The present-day Galerieholländer windmill Mühle Schiffdorf was built in 1864.
