Lütetsburg Castle Park is one of the few surviving examples of its kind in continental Europe. The park was laid out in the style of early Romanticism.
The origins of Lütetsburg Castle date back to the East Frisian chieftain Lütet Manninga. The present-day Lütetsburg Castle was rebuilt on foundations dating from 1517 after a devastating fire in 1956. Guided tours of Lütetsburg Castle Park explain the history and botany of the garden. Lütetsburg Castle is privately occupied and is not open for interior tours.
Lütetsburg Castle Park is the largest private English landscape garden in northern Germany. More than 150 species of trees and shrubs grow in the park; around 40 bird species also live there.
Children aged 6 to 12 can explore the park in a mini Land Rover.
The Castle Park Café serves cake, tea, coffee and seasonal dishes.
The North Sea is approximately eight kilometres from Lütetsburg. The short Red Route is an approximately 18-kilometre circular tour from Norden to Lütetsburg and its English landscape garden.
Visitors can reach Lütetsburg Castle by train to Norden and then continue via a Weser-Ems bus connection.
