The Rodau nature trail brings the river to life in Urberach and Ober-Roden. It is just under six kilometres long and features 29 information boards. It begins at the spring that flows year-round by the Rodauquelle playground in Urberach and ends near the wastewater treatment plant in Ober-Roden. These details give you a clear idea of the trail’s route and length, while showing the river as more than just a backdrop.
Twelve boards focus on nature in, along and around the Rodau. Topics include conservation successes, fish, small animals, birds and plants. Cultural history with “Oane Wesch”
The “Oane Wesch” culture and history trail comprises 56 stops with QR-code information boards. You can access and listen to the texts on your mobile phone. This lets you explore the stops by reading or listening and discover Rödermark from a cultural and historical perspective. For families who enjoy including a variety of themes in their trip, this trail offers a distinct focus alongside the natural themes of the Rodau nature trail. The two trails cater to different interests: one covers the Rodau and its natural surroundings, while the other focuses on culture and history.
Art and special stops along the cycle route
The wumboR cycle route also offers specific opportunities for discovery. Near Waldacker, it crosses the 50th parallel. Pillars display photos of cities along this line of latitude—a striking geographical feature you can discover right on the trail. In the Bulau, the cycle route also passes a replica section of a Roman road and the steel sculpture “Celtic Funeral Procession” by artist Kai Wujanz.
Other stops offer different points of interest: the wumboR cycle route passes the “Braaret Bernsche” and two features of the Regional Park Route. These waypoints add to the art and landscape experience, though they need not offer the same kind of experience. In Rödermark’s districts, 22 sculptures also stand in busy squares or at intersections. They offer a separate way to experience public art; the cycle route is not described as connecting to every sculpture.
