Rodgau: Circular Route, History and Green Discoveries

Getting around by bike or on foot

The Rodgau Circular Route is 41.2 kilometres long and follows a circular course. It runs mostly through fields and forests, and only occasionally through the districts. If you’re planning a longer trip, you can explore the route by bike or on foot; it is signposted and accessible in both directions.

It’s also possible to combine sections of the route with public transport: every district in Rodgau has an S-Bahn station. Bicycles can be taken on the S-Bahn free of charge. Discover history on five trails

The Rodgau History Trails focus on something different from the route through fields and forests. Forty-one uniformly designed information boards mark historically significant sites. Together, these form a 15-kilometre chain of five trails. You can explore the routes individually or in their entirety, on foot or by bike; the best option also depends on how you want to get around.

Texts, pictures and plans explain the history and location of each site in detail. The trails were created for both local residents and visitors interested in history. They offer the opportunity to learn not only about a site, but also its historical context and setting. If you want to focus on Rodgau’s history, you can choose individual trails or take on the entire chain as a longer discovery.

Parks, playgrounds and historic sites

For a green break, head to Amber Park, on the edge of the new development in Jügesheim, on Marienbader Allee. Its features include natural, flower-filled meadows and a garden where you can pick and eat fruit. In Dudenhofen, Luther Park is located by the Rodau River and has a playground. Rodgau Beach also has a specific spot for families: there is a water playground in the textile bathing area.

Another place to visit is the Rollwald Camp Memorial. It is located on the former cemetery of the Rollwald prison camp, in a park-like setting. Rochus Church, meanwhile, is a historic gem with artistic treasures. It replaced Rochus Chapel, consecrated in 1692, at the end of the 19th century, and underwent extensive renovation and expansion in the late 1970s. Each of these places offers something different—from a memorial site and church art to green spaces and play areas.
