The Old Church in Niedereisenhausen is a half-timbered building dating from around 1660. It retains a Baroque pulpit from 1730 and a medieval altar. These layers from different periods give the building its distinctive historical appeal. In 2017, the church received the Hessian Monument Preservation Award.
There are also clear landmarks to help you find your way between the villages: coming from Obereisenhausen, you first pass the 18th-century bakehouse and cross the road alongside the Perf. Just beyond it, partly hidden from view, is the Old Half-Timbered Church in Niedereisenhausen. The former bakehouse in Steinperf is also a popular photo spot.
Walking Scenery and Rest Stops
The Steinperf Circular Trail, an extra trail, follows narrow paths through varied stretches of woodland and alongside lush wild herb meadows and softly babbling streams. Kreuzberg is a viewpoint hill with heathland character. Forest, meadows, water, and heathland create a range of impressions along the walking route. Before setting out, it is a good idea to check current trail conditions.
At the edge of the forest above Steinperf, there is a rest area with a giant chair where visitors can let their legs dangle. There is also a hikers’ hostel at the starting point of the walking route. Simple overnight accommodation is available there by prior arrangement, and groups can stop for a meal. Confirm arrangements with the operator before your visit.
