Eschborn combines city history with art in public spaces and a range of leisure activities. History at Eschenplatz and along the Westerbach

Eschborn’s museum and city archive are located at the central Eschenplatz. The first floor of the city museum focuses on archaeological finds and medieval exhibits, including Eschborn’s tower castle and the Battle of Eschborn in 1389. The second floor is dedicated to the painter Hanny Franke, who lived in Eschborn in the 1960s and 1970s. The floors therefore have distinct focuses: early and medieval history, and an artist with ties to the city. Regularly changing exhibitions complement the collection. Concerts and talks are held in one of the museum’s halls; the program may vary.

Another historic landmark is the Old Eschborn Mill on the Westerbach. It is a cultural monument and features a large half-timbered gatehouse. A mill on this site is documented as early as 1405; a new building was constructed in 1692. These two dates mark different historical milestones: the earliest record of a mill at this location and its later reconstruction.

Sculpture route and park art

The sculpture route runs through the entire urban area of Eschborn and Niederhöchstadt as a network with various intersections. Depending on where you are, views shift between Frankfurt’s skyline and the Taunus. Eschborn-Niederhöchstadt Sculpture Park was established in 2010. Artworks acquired for the permanent collection are placed throughout its spacious landscaped grounds, which feature lawns, meadows and perennial beds. The park also serves as a venue for cultural events and exhibitions. Together, the route and park offer different perspectives on art in the urban environment and in a landscaped green space.

Festivals, water and active pursuits

The Eschenfest takes place over a weekend in May at Eschenplatz in the center of Eschborn. Its extensive program includes music, variety acts and activities for children; there is also a large market. The Christmas market is held at Eschenplatz on the second weekend of Advent. Clubs from Eschborn and Niederhöchstadt have stalls there, and choirs and music groups perform. Exact festival dates and programs vary, so it is a good idea to check them before planning your trip.

The Wiesenbad outdoor pool has a multi-purpose pool with 25-meter lanes and a non-swimmer area, as well as a toddlers’ pool and a water playground. The outdoor pool operates seasonally, and details may vary. The sauna area includes an outdoor log-cabin sauna, a steam bath and a sanarium; operating details here may also change. If you plan to visit the Wiesenbad, check the latest information beforehand.

For a cycling tour, the “Art Safari for All Ages” starts at Eschborn station, Schwalbacher Straße 4. As route details may change, it is advisable to check the latest information before setting off. Many years ago, the city of Eschborn designated official running routes through the Westerbach Green Corridor, with lengths of 5 and 8.5 kilometers.

Within the wider Main-Taunus destination, the Main-Taunus district connects the vineyards of the Upper Rheingau with the forests of the Taunus and a range of historic sights. This regional diversity adds further landscape and cultural highlights across the district to Eschborn’s attractions.

Choose the focus of your stay

When choosing a holiday apartment in Eschborn, your interests and travel dates may be deciding factors: a stay around the Eschenfest or Christmas market will depend on the dates of those weekend events. The museum and outdoor art offer different focuses; if you plan to include the outdoor pool, take its seasonal operation into account. You can tailor your search to whether you would like your trip to focus mainly on city history, art, events or water-based recreation.
