The Municipality of Lahnau Local History Museum also tells a story through its surroundings. The museum building, built in 1840/1841, is itself a listed cultural monument. The farmstead includes a large courtyard complex dating in part to 1620 and a barn from the 19th century; both are half-timbered. The different periods in which they were built give the farmstead its own historical dimension, extending beyond the objects on display.

The coach house contains the mould for the equestrian statue of Emperor Augustus, created by Heinrich Janke of Braunfels. Information panels there cover the history of the Celts, Romans and Germanic peoples, as well as the excavations at the Roman Forum. The museum also displays a reconstruction of the Dorlar ladder house, together with agricultural tools. This brings political and archaeological history alongside the vivid subject of rural work.
