One stop on the audio trail explains the importance of the Diemel Valley and its limestone grasslands for biodiversity. This adds a look at the landscape to the architectural and historical impressions: the surroundings are not just a backdrop to the castle, but also part of the experience.

More places to explore in the municipality

In the municipality, the Gottsbüren audio walk follows a circular route of around 1.5 kilometres, with nine stops exploring the history of this former pilgrimage site in the Reinhardswald forest. Its length, number of stops and subject give this walk a different character from the routes starting at the town hall in Trendelburg.

In Wülmersen, an audio walk with headphones and an MP3 player tells the story of the development from Wilmeressen to a knight’s estate and, eventually, a moated castle. It leads around and through the grounds of the old Wülmersen moated castle, formerly a knight’s estate. The circular walking route No. 1 offers a different perspective on the landscape: following both banks of the Holzape, it runs from Wülmersen moated castle past the Wülmersen fish farm to the large Keßpfuhl fishpond, within sight of Gottsbüren. Beech woods, stands of fir trees and untamed waterside meadows alternate along the way. The moated castle is also directly on the Diemel Cycle Route and the Diemel Valley Butterfly Trail.

These options each have a different focus: the audio walk tells the story of the place and its architecture, while the circular walking route highlights the stream landscape and its changing banks and woodland.
