Discover industrial history and architecture

The Ludwigsfelde City and Technology Museum displays exhibits and models from Ludwigsfelde’s manufacturing history across 800 m² of exhibition space. Highlights include the first W50 model truck, built in 1965. The museum presents the past and present of Ludwigsfelde and its districts, with a focus on industrial history from 1936 onward. The former railway station building now houses the museum, and the industrial heritage discovery tour starts at Ludwigsfelde railway station.

The town’s architectural history also shapes the way it is seen: Ludwigsfelde is an architectural museum of the GDR, showcasing industrially produced GDR housing series from 1959 to 1989. The listed wooden housing estate offers another glimpse into the town’s history. Built in 1944 around what is now Walther-Rathenau-Straße, it is beside the Heinrich Heine monument. The monument stands in the Dichterviertel, not far from the railway station. These different points of interest make industrial heritage and the town’s built history distinctive themes for a stay.

Churches and historic sites

In Ludwigsfelde itself stands the Protestant Church of St. Michael, built in 1955 to plans by building councillor Wendland. The surrounding municipality also has historic churches, each with its own story. The late medieval fieldstone church in Ahrensdorf was extensively restored in 1996 and 1997. In Löwenbruch, the manor owner Achatz von Alvensleben had St. Anne’s Church built in 1716; much of its interior dates from the time of construction.

The fieldstone church in Gröben was built at the beginning of the 13th century. After a fire in 1908, it was rebuilt to plans by Professor Franz Schwechten. In Gröben, visitors can also explore a copy of the church register with a translation of the chancery script. Those interested in local history can thus discover a historic written source as well as the churches.

Landscapes, trails and activities

The Pechpfuhl protected landscape area lies on the edge of Ludwigsfelde and is a destination for nature lovers. The approximately 4.5-kilometre Ludwigsfelde–Gröben nature trail also starts in Ludwigsfelde/Pechpfuhl. It runs through the Siethener See recreation area and is recommended for hiking and cycling. The approximately 80-hectare Siethener See is a destination for nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts. The Siethener Elsbruch is an approximately 240-hectare area dominated by black alder; it is part of the Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung nature reserve.

Other landscapes offer different ways to spend time outdoors: The Ahrensdorf gravel pits, between the village of Ahrensdorf and the Ludwigsfelde West interchange on the A10, were created in 1936 in connection with the construction of the motorway and are now used as a local recreation area. In Löwenbruch, expansive pastures and meadows, as well as the Notte-Niederung protected landscape area, invite visitors to cycle and hike. For a quieter outing combined with an activity, the mini-golf course at Kartoffellandhof Siethen is recommended as a family activity in the countryside. Kristall Saunatherme Ludwigsfelde offers bathing without swimwear.
