Historic Town Center and Striking Buildings

Many buildings shape the townscape of Dahme/Mark. The central town hall is a 19th-century building in the Neo-Renaissance style. On the edge of town stands a Baroque-style castle dating from the 18th century, now preserved as a secured ruin; it has a castle park. The town hall and castle provide contrasting architectural accents: one is in the town center, while the other is on the edge of town and survives as a ruin.

St. Mary's Church is also part of the town's cultural life. It hosts choral and organ concerts, orchestral performances and exhibitions. Alongside its architecture, this gives the historic town center a cultural dimension.

City Wall and Walking Tours

The city wall of Dahme/Mark is also known as the “Iron City Wall.” It was built mainly from bog ironstone; construction began in the 13th century. A walking tour of the historic town center takes in the town's sights and follows the wall. This makes it possible to combine the history of the buildings with a walk through the old town, rather than viewing individual buildings in isolation.

There is also an accessible circular route through the town center, around the city wall, for exploring the old town. It enables people with disabilities to enjoy the old town without restrictions. The sightseeing walk and the accessible circular route thus offer different ways to get to know the city wall and historic town center.

Local History or Flaeming-Skate

Since April 22, 2012, Dahme has had its own Flaeming-Skate circuit: the RK7. This gives visitors different options for planning their day in Dahme. The walk through the town center takes in sights and follows the wall; the RK7 is a separate Flaeming-Skate circuit. When choosing accommodation, you can consider whether the old town or the skating route should be the main focus of your stay. Before setting off on the RK7, check for temporary construction work.

Cultural Discoveries in the Wider Destination of Teltow-Fläming

Other places in the wider destination of Teltow-Fläming complement Dahme/Mark's historical and cultural attractions. The Baruther Glashütte settlement is a monument of European significance. It has a living glass museum with a working furnace, and traditional workshops produce one-of-a-kind pieces and small batches. Glassmaking, craftsmanship and historic significance offer a different focus here from the city wall and architectural history of Dahme/Mark.

The museums in the wider destination of Teltow-Fläming also offer a range of different perspectives. The Museum at the Monastery of the Canons in Jüterbog presents regional archaeology, Reformation history and the city's military history across three floors. In Kloster Zinna, the monastery museum and demonstration distillery combine the history of the Cistercian monastery with demonstrations of how the essences for the herbal liqueur “Klosterbruder” are made. The broader destination's cultural attractions thus range from architecture and local history to glassmaking, monasteries and museums.
