Bad Belzig: Castle, Old Town and Nature in the Hoher Fläming

Hiking between the old town, meadows and castle

The panoramic hiking trail leads to Eisenhardt Castle and along the Belziger Bach stream. The route passes through the Belziger Berge hills, forests, flowering meadows and open countryside, as well as the historic town centre. At 17.7 kilometres, it is a longer route that connects a variety of landscapes and townscapes. If you are comparing trails by length, Bad Belzig also has a much shorter nature trail: it is just under two kilometres long and runs along the wet meadows at the foot of Eisenhardt Castle.

The nature trail has twelve stations. Along the way, you can make stones ring, observe dragonflies, feel plants and open large acorns, among other activities. The content of individual stations may change. In addition, there is a dense network of hiking trails around Bad Belzig, Eisenhardt Castle and the SteinTherme. Nine terrain trails are marked “TK”; you can view sights from their routes. The different trail lengths offer a concrete guide for planning your day, without suggesting that all the routes offer the same experience.

Eisenhardt Castle and local history

The local history museum in the castle explores three millennia of local history. A particular highlight is the large tin-figure diorama in the “Hagelberg Room”: it depicts the Battle of Hagelberg in 1813. The castle is therefore not only a prominent landmark above the old town, but also a place where you can discover a specific chapter of regional history.

St Mary’s Church in Bad Belzig offers a different historical perspective. Its core is Romanesque; the church was built in the second half of the 13th century. The castle museum and the town church represent different historical themes: the former presents local history and a battle, while the latter reflects the Romanesque origins of a church building.

Trails, thermal baths and regional cuisine

If you want to balance activity and relaxation in different ways, Bad Belzig offers several options to consider when planning your day. The trails take you through landscapes and to sights; the SteinTherme offers a bathing world, a sauna world, and wellness and beauty services.
