Neutrebbin: Monuments, Local History Room and Hiking Trail
Accommodation in Neutrebbin
Neutrebbin combines local history with a 3.45-kilometre hiking trail. The Lovers’ Monument on Lovers’ Island, the Old Fritz Monument and an exhibition topic at the Local History Room offer different historical perspectives. Outside, a route leads from Friedensplatz through the Drift and along named paths and streets back into town.
Monuments and insights into local history
The Lovers’ Monument stands on Lovers’ Island in Neutrebbin and was erected in 1990 by sculptor Janulies Tembrides. The Old Fritz Monument was re-erected in Neutrebbin in 1994 and is dedicated to Frederick II (1712–1782). The years refer to different events: for the Lovers’ Monument, the date is when it was erected; for the Old Fritz Monument, it is when it was re-erected.
The Neutrebbin Local History Room also offers a different perspective on local history: its second exhibition area documents changes in the 20th century. This means that, alongside individual monuments, the developments of an entire century are also explored.
The hiking trail through Neutrebbin
The 3.45 km Friedensplatz–Weidenweg–Kuhstallstraße–Wriezener Straße hiking trail leads from Friedensplatz through the Drift to Weidenweg, past the biogas plant and onward along the cycle path on Wriezener Damm. In town, it follows Wriezener Straße and Hauptstraße back to Friedensplatz.
You can start the trail anywhere in Neutrebbin. Both the route length and the flexibility to choose your starting point are therefore relevant when planning. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
More culture and nature in Märkisch-Oderland
Märkisch-Oderland offers a wider regional setting for culture and nature. In Buckow, the Brecht-Weigel House has been a museum since 1977. The Brecht-Weigel House Literature Museum hosts readings, concerts, talks, discussions, films, exhibitions and special guided tours throughout the year; individual offerings vary. Neuhardenberg Castle is another cultural venue, with exhibitions, concerts, theatre performances and readings. Its programme changes.
Märkisch-Oderland’s cultural landscape also includes castles and manor houses, well-preserved half-timbered houses in historic town centres, and museums. The old colonist village of Neulietzegöricke in the Oderbruch, a locality within the municipality of Neulewin, is entirely protected as a historic monument. The calendar shapes a visit to the Mining Festival in the mining community of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin: since the mining tradition was revived, it has been celebrated every year on the first weekend in July. The programme and exact dates vary; check the dates if the festival is part of your plans.
For longer routes, Märkische Schweiz offers two different options: the 17 km Natura Trail and the certified Märkische Schweiz Nature Park Route, which is just under 21 km long. Both are considerably longer than Neutrebbin’s 3.45 km hiking trail. The Oderlandweg passes through shady woodland paths, sunlit deciduous forests and narrow valleys, and by small bodies of water. Check the current conditions of your planned routes locally.
There are also regional options for cycling: rides along the Oder-Neiße Cycle Route are possible in Märkisch-Oderland. The main route of the Oderbruchbahn Cycle Path runs from Fürstenwalde/Spree, or alternatively from Müncheberg, to Wriezen. It leads through the quiet landscape of the Oderbruch and combines the ride with the history of rail transport and the early 20th century.
Find a holiday apartment to suit your travel plans
