Cycling, horticulture and historic sites give Manschnow its many different facets. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether a cycling trip, local history or the annual flower festival will shape your stay. The town’s central connection to federal highways 1 and 112 is also a point of reference when choosing a location.

Cycling and a launch point on the riverbank

A 13 km section of the Oder-Neiße Cycle Route passes through Bleyen, Gorgast and Manschnow. In the town, it crosses the Alte Oder at the “Padde” and then rejoins the Oder-Neiße Cycle Route via Neumanschnow. When planning a cycling trip, the route is defined not only by the kilometres but also by the sequence of places and the crossing.

Another option by the water is the Manschnower Mühle launch point below the new fish ladder, where you can launch from the riverbank. If you plan to use the site, briefly check the local conditions before your visit.

Historic sites and an annual festival

In Manschnow, a quarter-mile marker stands on federal highway 1 at kilometre 6.4. A Soviet military cemetery is located on Friedensstraße. The royal watermill in Manschnow dates back to 1745. Together, these sites offer different historical points of reference for your stay.

Another tradition is the annual flower festival, held around the Manschnow community centre. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the date in advance. This will help you decide whether an event date or the town’s permanent features should shape your stay more.

Horticulture as part of the town’s character

Horticulture has a tradition of more than 100 years in Manschnow. A local horticultural business grows vegetables and potted plants in greenhouses and operates a flower shop and a seasonal sales greenhouse there. This offers a distinct perspective on Manschnow alongside the cycling route and historic sites: the focus here is on local horticultural practice.

The wider Küstriner Vorland destination

The wider Küstriner Vorland destination also offers its own points of interest. In Gorgast, Fort Gorgast was built between 26 April 1883 and July 1889 as one of the four outer forts of the city of Küstrin. It was intended to control the western bank of the Oder and serve as a place of refuge for potential troop movements. Massive walls, tunnels and vaulted chambers define the fort; visitors’ footsteps echo dully through its long corridors. A military and civilian history gathering is held at the fort every year. If this gathering is important to your trip, check the date in advance.

The wider Küstriner Vorland destination also includes the Oderinsel Küstrin-Kietz nature reserve, which covers around 213 hectares. It is in the municipality of Küstriner Vorland, includes parts of the Küstrin-Kietz cadastral district and lies immediately east of the built-up area of Küstrin-Kietz. The cycle route also passes through a different part of the area here: in Küstrin-Kietz, the Oder-Neiße Cycle Route runs directly along the top of the dike; in Manschnow, the 13 km route crosses the Padde and passes through the places mentioned above.

When choosing a holiday apartment, it helps to decide what you want to focus on: Manschnow’s cycling route, local history and horticulture, or other points of interest in the wider Küstriner Vorland. This lets you base your choice of location on the kind of stay you have planned without confusing the features of the individual places.
