Neulewin between Village Ditch and Brandenburg History
Accommodation in Neulewin
The village ditch winds through Neulewin, with rows of houses set back slightly on either side. The watercourse and buildings give the village a distinctive spatial character: the ditch is woven into the village layout. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether to focus on the history of the village itself or on the range of cultural and nature-related attractions in the wider destination of Märkisch-Oderland.

History in the Village
The Neulewin Local Heritage Museum is a small museum in a former workers’ house, built around 1875 for two families. It displays furniture, objects and tools from everyday life in the past. The house’s construction date and original use thus meet a collection that brings everyday life to light through tangible objects. In 2018, the local heritage museum was awarded the Cultural Heritage Seal. Another memorial site in Neulewin is the founding stone, which commemorates the first settlers’ life of hardship. The municipality of Neulewin also includes the old colonist village of Neulietzegöricke in the Oderbruch, which has been designated a protected historic monument in its entirety.
Culture in the Wider Destination of Märkisch-Oderland
Cultural attractions in Märkisch-Oderland include magnificent castles and manor houses, well-preserved half-timbered houses in historic town centers, and museums. In Buckow, the Brecht-Weigel House has been a museum since 1977. The literature museum hosts readings, concerts, talks, discussions, film screenings, exhibitions and special guided tours throughout the year; individual offerings vary. This offers a different perspective on culture from the everyday objects at the local heritage museum in Neulewin.
Neuhardenberg Palace is a cultural venue with exhibitions, concerts, theater performances and readings. In Rüdersdorf near Berlin, the Bergfest has been celebrated every year on the first weekend in July since the mining tradition was revived. The program and exact dates vary from year to year. If you would like to include this festival in your travel plans, check the latest event information.
The Seelower Höhen Memorial and Museum offers a multimedia exhibition on the events of the war, its consequences and the use of the memorial site, in German and English. The outdoor grounds are freely accessible regardless of opening hours. This information applies to the outdoor grounds; if you would like to visit the exhibition, check the latest access information in advance.
Routes and Nature Experiences
For tours in Märkische Schweiz, choose between the 17-kilometer Natura Trail and the certified Märkische Schweiz Nature Park Route, which is just under 21 kilometers long. Their different lengths can help you plan a suitable tour; check trail conditions locally. The Oderland Trail passes along shaded forest paths, sunlit deciduous forests and narrow valleys, and by small bodies of water.
The wider destination of Märkisch-Oderland also offers cycling tours along the Oder–Neisse Cycle Route. The main route of the Oderbruchbahn Cycle Route runs from Fürstenwalde/Spree or, alternatively, from Müncheberg to Wriezen. It crosses the quiet landscape of the Oderbruch and also offers a glimpse into the early 20th century and the history of railway transport. Check the latest route and connection information before setting out on a specific cycling tour.
In Bad Freienwalde, all the ski jumps at the Sparkassen Ski Arena can be used in summer and winter. Special mats and weather-independent inrun tracks make year-round ski jumping possible. As actual use may vary locally, it is advisable to check the latest information before planning your visit.
First decide which topics interest you most, and factor current event dates and trail conditions into your plans.
