Elmau Castle is located in a protected high valley at the foot of the Alps. It was built between 1914 and 1916 as a cultural retreat, rebuilt after a major fire in 2007, and its retreat opened in 2015. The G7 summits were held on the grounds in 2015 and 2022.

Elmau Castle has maintained a long-standing program of concerts and festivals featuring internationally renowned artists. Every year, up to 150 concerts, several festivals, and recording sessions take place there.
