Riverside trails and trips to the water
An easy cycling loop runs from Lenggries via Wegscheid to Leger and back. The route is 13 kilometres long, takes about an hour, and starts and ends at the Isar Bridge in Lenggries. Along the way, it follows the Isar and the Jachen through idyllic river meadows. Its length, approximate duration and starting and finishing point give the tour a clear framework for planning your day.
A different waterside landscape awaits at Lake Sylvenstein, about 15 kilometres south of Lenggries. The crystal-clear lake invites you to swim and linger, makes a good starting point for a hike, and lies close to the Isar Cycle Path. Cultural history in the Isarwinkel
The Lenggries Local History Museum presents cultural and historical treasures from the Isarwinkel across seven exhibition areas. Its museum trail takes visitors from customs and crafts to farming and alpine agriculture, and on to the history of timber rafting. Lenggries was known for timber rafting then and is still known for it today. In this way, regional ways of life and work sit alongside a subject closely connected with the town’s history.
There is also a way to explore art and culture beyond the museum: the Lenggries municipal Artists’ and Cultural Trail has 22 stops. Steles introduce artists and cultural figures from the municipality. The number of stops and the individual portraits give the trail a different focus from the museum trail, which is arranged by theme.
Hohenburg, once the region’s most important seat of power, is part of its history. The castle was destroyed in a devastating major fire on 21 July 1707. This turning point can be considered alongside the insights into customs, crafts and timber rafting.
Cross-country skiing and getting here
There are 42 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails in the local area of Lenggries. In addition, north of the Brauneck mountain station, a 1.5-kilometre floodlit night trail runs to the Gilgenhöfe. The longer trail network and the shorter floodlit route offer two specific cross-country skiing options; the night trail is distinguished by its route and lighting.
