Kleinostheim: Cultural Trail, Gorge and Leisure Pool

A local walking tour of about three kilometres, the route through Rückersbach Gorge and the VITAMAR leisure pool give Kleinostheim a variety of attractions. Local history on the Cultural Trail

The local walking tour on the Kleinostheim Cultural Trail is about three kilometres long. It leads from the Maingauhalle below the Wingert to the railway station, past the Heimatdenkmal memorial stele and across the 50th parallel into the old town centre. There, stop 2 is located by the music school and Kleinostheim’s newly built churches. On the way into the town centre, the 50th parallel is a distinctive landmark. Those interested in local history will find a route with clearly named stops rather than a collection of unconnected destinations.

Sports pool and outdoor area at VITAMAR

The VITAMAR leisure pool offers a different focus. Its 50-metre sports pool has a 3-metre diving platform and a 1-metre springboard. The spacious outdoor area includes a children’s paddling pool under a sunshade, a sunbathing lawn and a beach volleyball court. For families planning a visit with children, the designated paddling area is a useful feature; the sports pool and diving facilities add to the pool’s appeal.

Gorge, views and the Main landscape

The route through Rückersbach Gorge climbs to Sternberg and a panoramic view over the Rhine-Main region. A loop passes through the Waldstadt settlement in the Spessart; on the return leg of the route are a shelter and Waldsee lake. While the Cultural Trail connects stops in the old town centre, the gorge route focuses on the climb and the view. A shorter alternative is the Main landscape route, about two kilometres long and marked with a yellow EU boat on a blue background.

Cycling and hiking trails in the wider Aschaffenburg destination

In the district of Aschaffenburg, the family-friendly MainRadweg runs through the Main valley and is well signposted. As local waymarking may change, it is worth checking the signs before setting off. The Kahltal-Spessart cycle route is a signposted route through the district’s landscapes. In the eastern Hochspessart, four challenging cross-country routes are also marked as Bikewald-Spessart routes; check conditions on site. The regional hiking options also vary. The Spessart in the district of Aschaffenburg is part of Germany’s largest continuous mixed-forest area. The Spessartwege trails 1, 2 and 3 pass through the district and have already been awarded the “Qualitätswege Wanderbares Deutschland” quality trail designation four times by the German Hiking Association. The Eselsweg is a multi-day tour. The district also has more than 30 hiking tours on the cultural trails of the Archaeological Spessart Project; this number may change as routes are added or removed.
