Forest, Water and Traditional Crafts
The Schulwaldgarten, a small arboretum, is located in the municipal forest of Oerlenbach. Colourful information boards explore the subject of forests; the garden is also home to more than 40 tree species, which are described and characterised. This makes the garden a practical place to visit for anyone interested in trees and their diversity. Groups with varied interests will find a different focus here than in Ebenhausen’s water and traditional-craft attractions.
The Kneipp pool in Ebenhausen combines a large pool for walking in water with two arm basins for health-promoting treatments. Footpaths on both sides of the pool complement the facility. The pool is filled from May to October; it can be used daily at the stated times. The water treatments and paths are different parts of the offering. If you plan to include the Kneipp pool in your day, take note of the period when it is filled.
The local history museum on Kirchplatz offers another perspective on Ebenhausen. Exhibits include a restored old blacksmith’s shop, a shoemaker’s workshop and a carpenter’s workshop, as well as rural household items. The collection draws attention to different crafts and objects from everyday country life. Visits are possible by appointment from April to October. Bear this requirement in mind when planning a museum visit; the museum is a different kind of destination from an attraction with stated daily opening times.
Hiking Trails with Different Points of Interest
Several trail details are useful when planning a walk, each offering its own point of reference. A ten-kilometre hike starts in Ebenhausen and passes the source of the Wern and Oerlenbach. The distance is a practical guide if you plan to include a hike in your stay. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
Oerlenbach is also on the Northern Wayside Shrine Route. The Lower Franconian Way of St James is another part of the region’s hiking network: almost 30 kilometres of this route pass through the municipalities of Oerlenbach, Poppenhausen, Euerbach, Geldersheim and Werneck. Those who want to focus on hiking can choose between a walk with a named starting point and the two longer-distance route connections.
Bad Kissingen in the Wider Region
The district of Bad Kissingen lies on the southern edge of the Rhön as part of the wider Bad Kissingen travel destination. Two motorways cross the district from north to south: the A 7 between Fulda and Würzburg, and the A 71 between Erfurt and Schweinfurt. Since 1 January 2025, the district has been part of the Mainfranken public transport network (NVM).
