Reuthsee and Celtic Burial Mounds

Reuthsee is designated as an FFH nature reserve. Hiking and walking trails by the idyllic lake invite you to relax. A total of eight Celtic burial mounds lie in the forest to the north and south of the lake. Thus, lakeside trails and relaxation are set against archaeological traces in the forest—two different perspectives on the landscape around Reuthsee.

Sulzdorf’s Jewish cemetery covers 1,070 square metres and contains 92 grave monuments. Together with the burial mounds, it forms a distinct part of the town’s cultural heritage: a Jewish cemetery and Celtic burial mounds stand side by side as different historical testimonies.

The Franconian Open-Air Museum in Fladungen also offers its own way to explore regional cultural history. Faithfully reconstructed houses and farms bring 350 years of rural everyday life in Lower Franconia and the Rhön to life. The museum grounds cover around 12 hectares and contain about 30 historic buildings, including farmhouses, craft workshops and a village school.
