Culture at the Zehentstadel and Toy Museum
Kulturstadel Hemau e.V. was founded in January 2005 with the aim of filling the Zehentstadel with cultural life. Since renovation work was completed in December 2003, the building has served as a cultural center. Alongside the municipal library and town archive, it offers two multifunctional event spaces—the council chamber and civic hall—for talks, readings and concerts.
The Hemau Toy Museum displays toys from the 19th and 20th centuries: dolls, toy shops, metal and wooden construction sets, and a working model railway. Visitors especially interested in technology can start with the model railway; the dolls and toy shops offer a different focus from the construction sets. Opening times are seasonal: from the Spring Market on the last Sunday in April through July, and from mid-September through December, on the first and third Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. Check the current opening information from the City of Hemau before visiting.
Outdoor play, puzzles and cycling
Hemau’s Kuhtrails dirt park offers a children’s pump track for the youngest visitors, as well as a large pump track and small, medium and large dirt lines for older children, teenagers and adults. You can practise jumps and stunts there. The digital outdoor scavenger hunt “The Treasure in Hessenweiher” offers a very different way to discover Hemau: teams follow an investigative chat on their smartphones, with clues and an interactive map guiding them to various locations around the town center. These options provide both sporty routes and a shared puzzle adventure for different kinds of day out.
The approximately 3,200 m² adventure playground in Tangrintelpark opened in its first phase in July 2026; the park is being completed in stages through 2029. The site includes around 35 play features, including an inclusive playground, an adventure landscape and a water play area. It offers children of all ages opportunities to play and explore. Together with the areas of the Kuhtrails described for different age groups, this gives you a range of options to weigh up exercise and play activities according to the children’s interests.
Bus connections and a regional cycling route
RVV bus route 28 connects Hemau with Regensburg Central Station via Deuerling, Undorf, Nittendorf and Etterzhausen; in the direction of Hemau, the route runs via the Aichkirchen junction. If you plan to take the bus, check the latest RVV information, as routes and timetables may change.
In the wider Regensburg destination area, the signposted Obsterlebnisweg (Fruit Experience Trail) runs for about 34 kilometers from Hemau via Beratzhausen to Kallmünz. Twelve large information boards line the cycling route. The trail offers a different perspective on the region from Hemau’s fixed-location attractions: you can choose a longer, signposted route with several stops instead of a visit to the cultural center or museum.
