History

On March 1, 1919, the municipality was officially renamed from Unterpeißenberg to Peißenberg and designated as a market town.

The present-day municipality developed as a result of the Bavarian Municipal Edict of 1818; in 1978, parts of the former municipality of Ammerhöfe and St. Georg were incorporated.

The formation of the present-day municipality took place as part of the administrative reforms of the Kingdom of Bavaria.

Peißenberg covers 32.69 square kilometers and is divided into 25 municipal districts.

The Ammersenke depression lies east of Peißenberg.
