Hiking between the Donaumoos and the hill country
The “Ambach Loop” is 3.17 km long and offers views across the wide expanse of the Donaumoos. When the föhn wind blows, the Alpine ridge can be seen to the south. The “Around Ehekirchen” trail loops around the main village; along the way, you can enjoy views of the Donaumoos, the Alps and the surrounding hill country. At 7.28 km, this loop is longer than the Ambach Loop. The distances give you a specific point of reference when planning your day around your preferred route.
The “Baierner Flecken” is 6.34 km long and starts and ends at the community center in Hollenbach. The route crosses the Längenmühlbach and follows the final section of the dam to the forest. It also leads to a retention basin where you can observe many birds, water buffalo and a large herd of Murnau-Werdenfels cattle. At 15.2 km, the Streichholz Loop is the longest route in Ehekirchen’s hiking program; on the outskirts of Bonsal, it passes a stone cross.
Other routes offer different scenery: The 2.8 km “Leitenbach Trail” near Bonsal follows a slope covered with small groves of field trees to the eastern boundary of Illdorf. A detour leads over flower-rich dry slopes above Illdorf that are protected as a nature reserve. The “Bucher Hiking Tour” is 6.34 km long; the Haselbach Valley along the route is predominantly meadowland. On the 14.2 km “Lorenzi-Donaumoos” route, the open expanses of the upper Donaumoos alternate with the wooded Aindling terrace steps. Views stretch far to the east and south. The “Gumppenberg Loop” is 8.85 km long.

Churches and art in the local districts
The village churches also offer specific points of interest for anyone interested in cultural history. A torso of a Roman funerary monument is built into the exterior wall of the village church in Holzkirchen. The new parish church in Ehekirchen was solemnly consecrated on August 25, 1896, by diocesan bishop Petrus v. Hötzl, with 26 members of the clergy taking part. In Hollenbach, the parish church preserves the tower of a larger 15th-century church building. Its nave has been renovated several times and was refurbished and given a Baroque interior in 1720.
The church in Bonsal houses two sculptures dating from around 1480 and around 1500: “The Death of Mary” and the valuable “Lamentation of Christ.” The church in Buch was built around 1500; its nave was extended in 1787. The church in Ambach was built in 1450, was devastated by the Swedes during the Thirty Years’ War and was rebuilt around 1690.
