Culture and History

Karlskron was founded at the end of the 18th century as the first of the settler colonies in the Donaumoos. The first houses were built from 1791 onward along the newly laid-out Moosstraße between Reichertshofen and Lichtenau.

The name Karlskron goes back to Elector Karl Theodor, who personally inspected the progress of the colonization of the Donaumoos in 1794. A commemorative plaque at today’s town hall recalls this visit; the town hall is the oldest building in Karlskron.

This building successively served as the Moos Court, as the residence of Franz Seraph Grill, as a convent of the Poor School Sisters for 120 years, and as the municipal administration since 1973.

Karlskron comprises 15 municipal districts, including the parish villages of Adelshausen, Karlskron, and Pobenhausen.
